Arthrogen-CIA® Arthritogenic Monoclonal Antibodies (Collagen Antibody-Induced Arthritis - CAIA) Collagen-induced arthritis is an antibody mediated disease. Therefore, type II collagen specific antibodies can be used to induce arthritis. Arthrogen-CIA® type II collagen specific antibodies, which when given in combination, induce severe arthritis (see references 5 & 6). The advantage of the monoclonal antibody-induced (mAb) arthritis model is multifold. First, severe arthritis is induced within 24-48 hours instead of the four weeks required to induce arthritis after immunization with type II collagen. Secondly, unlike the collagen-induced model which requires a restricted MHC haplotype, the mAb model can be induced in all strains of mice. Thus, this model is ideal for rapidly screening therapeutics for the treatment of arthritis and to study the mechanisms involved in the development of arthritis. Advantages Applicability
